THK Awards as Implementation of SDGs Values

SUSTAINABLE Development Goals (SDGs) initiated by the United Nations in 2015 and adopted by 193 countries is a universal invitation to eradicate poverty, protect the earth and ensure that all people live in peace and prosperity. To reach the SDGs, 17 goals are set so that development will be sustainable to live peacefully and prosperously for all of the inhabitants.

For example, the first goal: No Poverty means that there would be no more poor people in the world. This is the concept of ‘happiness’ that has been echoed by the United Nations in their annual report entitled World Happiness Report since 2012. In the 2018 report, Indonesia was ranked 96th – dropped 15 ranks from last year.

The variables used to measure country’s happiness and welfare are GDP per capita, life expectancy, social assistance, social freedom, perceptions of corruption and generosity.

“The Indonesian government supports efforts to achieve SDGs in Indonesia by including the SDGs agenda in national planning and launching it in Presidential Regulation No.59/2017,” said Mari Elka Pangestu,

President of the United in Diversity Organization when launching Happiness Pyramid SDGs to promote the SDGs. “A country with a happier society will grow more rapidly,” he said. Happiness of the SDG Pyramid classifies SDGs into 3 important components, namely the measure to achieve harmony between fellow humans, ecology and spirituality.

The values contained in the SDGs are actually in line with the philosophy of Indonesian culture, such as Pancasila, Islamic religious values (Hablum minallah, hablum minannas, hablum minalam), Chinese Philosophy (Tian Di Ren He) and Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana which means “Three Ways for Happiness.”

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Tri Hita Karana Bali Foundation, Wisnu Wardana, added that Tri Hita Karana (THK Awards) program can be said to be the implementation of 17 Goals of SDGs set by the United Nations. The pawongan element (harmony between fellow humans) establishes the foundation of the SDGs pyramid consisting of 10 Goals, following on top of 5 Goals as the implementation of palemahan (ecology) and 2 Goals above into the parhyangan (spiritual) element.

He said the THK Awards program launched in 2000 turned out to be in accordance with the values of world development. “Like in 2015, THK Awards was able to implement the Global Code of Ethic for Tourism,” he said. v BTNews paper/marketeers. com)
